PHOENIX — Yuma Sector border agents discovered over the weekend that what looked like a sweet treat in someone’s cooler was not as innocent as it seemed.
Agents at the Highway 78 checkpoint in Blythe, California, arrested two people for trying to bring nine pounds of methamphetamine across the border disguised as ice pops.
According to a press release, a Border Patrol canine detected an odor in a Toyota Corolla on Sunday afternoon.
After further inspection, the agents found a cooler containing see-through plastic bags with brightly colored contents made to look like ice pops that were later determined to be meth.
The 28-year-old female driver and a 38-year-old male passenger were arrested.
Blythe is a few miles west of the California-Arizona border.
