PHOENIX — Arizona’s Democratic senator leads her caucus for the most bills with Republican co-sponsors.
Research from Quorum Analytics found that is nearly three out of every five bills — or 58% — for Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz.
“She’s running bills principally on veterans issues and those types of things where you’re going to find bipartisan support anyway,” said KTAR Political Analyst Chuck Coughlin.
He adds she’s positioning herself better with her colleagues in her freshman term.
“As someone that you can reliably go to as a workhorse to get things done,” Coughlin said.
Sinema’s bills include one to boost information sharing between families of service members and the Veterans Administration to reduce veteran suicides, and to admit non-combat veterans into the American Legion.
Meanwhile, Sen. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., has sponsored the most bills — 25 — of all Senate freshmen.
“She’s doing everything she can to create a record for herself in this very tumultuous political environment,” Coughlin said.
McSally faces a tough re-election campaign next year.
Both senators are trying to fulfill campaign promises to work across the aisle.
