PHOENIX – The Transportation Security Administration released important news Monday.
Alfie from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was voted the winner of the TSA’s “Cutest K-9” contest to coincide with National Dog Day.
There were three other good dogs nominated for the award by TSA handlers from various airports around the country: Muk from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Figor from Chicago Midway International Airport, and Donna from St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
Voting was opened up to the public last Friday on the TSA’s official Instagram account.
The K-9s are most often seen at airports working security checkpoints, and assisting with the efficiency and effectiveness of TSA’s screenings to ensure that no harmful materials make it on board.
These highly-trained pups are put to work because of their ability to sniff and detect explosive materials.
TSA currently has over 1,000 explosives detection canine teams deployed nationwide.
As cute as they might be, they are working dogs and should not be pet or fed by anyone except their handlers.
