Playboy app removes nudity, adheres to Apple standard

Playboy has launched a new app for the iPhone despite Apple’s stringent restrictions regarding pornography.

However, according to ABC News, the adult entertainment conglomerate’s new app does not include any nudity. Instead, Playboy’s app aims to focus on the magazine’s articles.

“The app respectfully follows Apple’s content standards and therefore does not feature nudity,” a Playboy spokesperson told ABC News. “There are still pictorials that Playboy thinks fans will love – and leaving a little more to the imagination can be quite provocative. The focus of the app, though, is on a lot more than pictorials. It’s on great content (yes, the articles!)”

Prior to this, Apple removed the photo app, 500px, after receiving complaints about pornographic content being displayed. Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs explained in a 2010 email that the company has a high moral standard when dealing with these particular situations, according to TechCrunch.

When questioned about Apple’s role as moral police in the App Store, Jobs responds that “we do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone.” Better, is what he said next: “Folks who want porn can buy and [sic] Android phone.”
