PHOENIX — When it comes to breaking the glass ceiling, Arizona ranks as the 18th-best place in the United States for women to do that.

A recent report by WalletHub examined all 50 states for indicators of gender inequality. The study factored in workplace environment, education, health and political empowerment.

While Arizona ranked 18th overall, it placed second in workplace environment, 14th for political empowerment and 21st in education and health rank.

Maine ranked as the overall best place for women’s rights while Utah ranked worst overall, including the bottom rankings for workplace environment and health and education rank.

Hawaii, Nevada, New York and New Mexico were the next best states overall.

New Mexico, Vermont, Florida, Nebraska and Rhode Island check into the top 5 when it came to the smallest income gaps between men and women in their respective states.

Meanwhile, South Carolina, Louisiana, Washington, Utah, and Wyoming had the largest income gaps in the country.

Another category where women struggle in the workplace is in executive positions. According to the American Association of University Women, less than 29% of business executives are female.

Wyoming, Alaska, New Mexico, North Dakota and West Virginia were the best states for the smallest difference in which gender held an executive position. On the other hand, Utah, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut suffered the largest gap in this area.

According to the report, it noted that the United States ranks 71st globally when it comes to the gender gap.
