PHOENIX — Plans for a new civic square in a West Valley city moved another step forward this week.

Goodyear City Council approved a development agreement Monday for the $87 million project on the corner of McDowell Road and 150th Drive.

“This project has been a long time in the making and is one of the reasons I began my career on council years ago,” Mayor Georgia Lord said in a press release.

The city’s partner in the development, Globe Corporation, will build a 125,000-square-foot city hall with a library, a 2-acre park and 100,000 square feet of office space on the land.

The corporation owns 47 acres in the area where the square will be built and donated about 6 acres to the city for the project, according to the agreement.

The city said the square will host festivals, concerts and parades to create “a true sense of community.”

“Our residents are what makes our city a close-knit community, and I look forward to celebrating holidays and special occasions in this new gathering space together,” Lord said in the release.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-2022.
