PHOENIX — A new care unit with a specialization for patients requiring heart monitoring is coming to Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale.
The 40-patient unit will feature all-private rooms for patients with a history of heart problems, according to a press release.
The unit, called a Progressive Care Unit, is scheduled to start construction on it this week and be completed by next summer.
“The new floor will allow us to get patients from the emergency room to a patient room more quickly, even during our busiest times,” Banner Thunderbird CEO Deb Krmpotic said in the release. “It’s going to help make healthcare easier and life better for some of our sickest patients.”
The completion of the unit will push the hospital to 595 beds, making it the Valley’s third-largest hospital.
Amenities of the unit will include a lobby, conference room and private consultation room for doctors to meet with families.
