PHOENIX – The flame is going out at an iconic Scottsdale restaurant.
After more than 22 years of gooey goodness, The Melting Pot on Hayden Road north of Via de Ventura is hanging up its skinny forks for good.
A note on The Melting Pot’s website and Facebook page says the restaurant’s last day will be Sept. 30 after a “business decision” was made to leave the ritzy McCormick Ranch community.
“This closure is strictly a carefully planned and weighed business decision,” the note says.
“Despite our best efforts, we were unable to secure a mutually beneficial lease extension with the current landlord of our Scottsdale location.”
Customers and former employees lamented the announcement, with Facebook comments saying it was a sentimental spot for first dates, anniversaries and other memorable occasions.
Valley fondue fans can continue dipping their morsels in melted cheese and chocolate at The Melting Pot’s Ahwatukee and Glendale locations.
The owners are on the lookout for a new location to set up their pots, but in the meantime there are plans to expand at continuing restaurants.
