PHOENIX — Structures built for the St. Mary’s Food Bank Canstruction event will be on display at the Phoenix Convention Center through Friday.
Eleven teams from architectural, engineering and construction firms had 12 hours Saturday to build their creations out of canned food that will be donated to the food bank after the event.
Designs included an Arizona State University-themed display, Link from The Legend of Zelda, Captain America from “The Avengers” series and Elmo from “Sesame Street.”
More than 63,000 cans were used to create the structures, according to a press release.
Throughout the 12 years the food bank has held the event, it has raised over a half million pounds of canned goods.
The public can vote for their favorite display in person or online.
