PHOENIX – A West Valley suburb has hired a former Phoenix police veteran as its new assistant chief.
Louis Tovar started his new position with the Avondale Police Department on Monday, the city announced in a press release.
Tovar has 35 years of law enforcement experience, the release said.
“Avondale is fortunate to have Louie Tovar join our team,” Avondale Chief Dale Nannenga said in the release. “He has tremendous passion for the job and his background is strong in recruiting, training, and community relations.
“He has a philosophy of team work and will fit in well.”
Tovar, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northern Arizona and also trained at the FBI National Academy, will oversee the Avondale Police Department’s Support Services Division.
