PHOENIX – Southbound Interstate 17 north of the Phoenix area was temporarily shut down Friday morning because of a brush fire, and traffic in both directions was delayed because of lane restrictions, authorities said.
The closure was at milepost 254, about 2 miles north of the Sunset Point rest stop, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
One southbound lane was reopened about 10:45 a.m., about 45 minutes after the closure was put in place.
Northbound traffic approaching Cordes Junction was also limited to one lane, causing backups.

By 2 p.m., all lanes had been reopened. The delays were mostly resolved within an hour, ADOT said.
