PHOENIX – When forecasters in Phoenix announce a “cooldown” of summer temperatures under 110 degrees, it’s just about cause to party.

Weather experts said Friday that weekend temperatures would be 108 degrees, down a few notches from the previous days of an excessive watch. The week’s high heat topped out at 114 degrees Wednesday.

OK, yes, we will take 108 degrees in the daytime. But the break, so to speak, will be short-lived. Excessive heat will be back in the Valley early next week.

“It’s at least a little bit of a break,” ABC15 meteorologist Iris Hermosillo told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

After that, though, it could be as hot as 114 degrees by Wednesday, the National Weather Service predicted.

Nighttime lows will hardly be low.

“It’s almost certain we’ll see several mornings with overnight lows above 90 degrees,” weather service meteorologist Jaret Rogers told KTAR News.

Rogers added it was rare for Valley residents to suffer through so many days over 110 degrees at this point in August.

“We could be looking at records (for the dates),” he said.

The Phoenix area averages 105 degrees in August.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Jim Cross and Ashley Flood contributed to this report.
