Phoenix area issued excessive heat warning through end of week

PHOENIX — The Phoenix area is expected to experience high heat for the rest of the week with no sign of relief in sight.

The National Weather Service said an excessive heat warning was in effect until Friday evening, with high temperatures ranging from 112 to 117 degrees.

“(Wednesday’s) temperature should be away from that record even though we’re going to climb to 113 degrees. The record … is 117 degrees, set on this day in 2015,” ABC15 meteorologist Iris Hermosillo told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday.

“The forecast for Thursday is 114, and the record … is 115 degrees set back in 2015, so we’ll have to be on record watch.”

While the mercury may drop below 110 degrees over the weekend, it’s expected to bounce back up by Monday.

Hermosillo said it’s unlikely the Valley will see any precipitation this week.

“It looks like we’re going to stay rain-free not just through the end of the week but even into the weekend,” she said.

Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has recorded a little more than a quarter-inch of rain this storm season.

Meteorologist Mark O’Malley with the National Weather Service told KTAR News last week that the Valley is usually up near 1¼ inches at this time of year.
