German airline to offer nonstop Phoenix-Frankfurt flight in 2020

PHOENIX — An airline based in Germany announced Wednesday that it will offer a nonstop flight between Phoenix and Frankfurt, starting next year.
Eurowings service on an Airbus 330-200 will begin April 29, 2020, according to a Sky Harbor International Airport press release.
The flight will be offered five days per week until November. The plane will have three classes of seats with a total capacity of 270.
“We are thrilled to connect the Phoenix metropolitan area with Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub, where we offer over 200 connecting flights,” Frank Naeve, vice president of sales with the Lufthansa Group, which owns Eurowings, said in the release.

“Phoenix is one of the top growth areas in the Southwest, with a robust economy that has links to companies in Europe and beyond.”

Lufthansa Airlines previously offered service from Phoenix to Frankfurt and Dusseldorf from 2001 to 2003.
“It is great to see our City Council-approved Airline Incentive Program continually pay dividends to our community with the addition of another non-stop flight to Frankfurt,” Councilman Michael Nowakowski of District 7 said in the release.
According to the release, Phoenix international flights add over $3 billion to the local economy annually.
Condor Airlines began nonstop seasonal service between Phoenix and Frankfurt in May 2018 and announced an expansion shortly after.
