PHOENIX — Football season is back, and so is the traffic to get to State Farm Stadium.
ADOT is advising drivers in the West Valley to allow for extra travel time Thursday afternoon ahead of the Arizona Cardinals’ first preseason game this season.
The game against the Los Angeles Chargers is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m., but the stadium’s parking lots open at 3 p.m.
“That’s going to add a lot of extra time during the afternoon commute,” ADOT spokesman Garin Groff told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday.
ADOT says drivers who are not going to the game should avoid the busiest stadium travel routes — Interstate 10 and Loop 101 — if possible.
Those attending the game traveling from north Scottsdale or the East Valley are advised to use Loop 101 westbound and southbound across the north Valley and Glendale in an effort to avoid the I-10 westbound, according to ADOT.
Freeway message boards will carry updates on current and anticipated traffic conditions.
