PHOENIX — The Phoenix Fire Department is investigating an unknown substance that was found at a building near Central Avenue and Washington Street, Capt. Kenny Overton said in an email Tuesday evening.
Phoenix Fire said the substance was not explosive, and that it would be sent to the state crime lab for further evaluation and identification.
Four people were placed in precautionary quarantine because they were in the room when the substance was found but have been released, Overton said.
The substance was found in the building’s mail room, Overton said.
He said that when hazmat crews performed initial atmospheric readings of the mail room, they detected zero levels of atmospheric contamination.
No other information was immediately available.
