PHOENIX – Police said a young man street-racing was responsible for the death of a woman driving in Scottsdale over the weekend.

Ramon Angel Carrasco, 22, was arrested Sunday on charges of second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the crash on Miller Road and near East Pinnacle Peak Road that claimed the life of 68-year-old Cynthia Ann Fisher.

Investigators said the cars collided Saturday afternoon in the intersection at Williams Drive when Fisher was trying to turn left from a southbound lane.

According to an email from police, witnesses said it looked as if another car had been racing against the suspect.

Carrasco and an unidentified 22-year-old woman riding in the passenger seat were speeding, police said, when they crossed paths with the older woman.

Carrasco and the younger woman were treated at a hospital. She suffered serious injuries, while Carrasco had minor injuries.

The older woman, who had been the only occupant of her car, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The roadway was closed for more than 6 hours.
