2 killed in Mesa after pickup truck allegedly runs red light

PHOENIX — Two people were killed in Mesa on Wednesday night after a pickup truck allegedly ran a red light and struck a car.
According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the collision at Recker Road and University Drive happened around 9:40 p.m.
Witnesses told authorities that the truck had been traveling south on Recker when it ran the light and T-boned the car, which was traveling east on University.
The 32-year-old driver and 25-year-old passenger of the car were pronounced dead at the scene.
The 57-year-old woman driving the truck was hospitalized with injuries that weren’t life threatening.
MCSO is investigating whether impairment and speed were factors in the crash.
