PHOENIX — Firefighters are giving back control of the Museum Fire near Flagstaff to a Coconino National Forest team as containment continues to rise.
Command will be transferred from the Southwest Area Type 1 Incident Management to a local Type 3 team on Tuesday at 6 p.m., according to a press release.
Containment reached 82% on Monday, a continuation of a positive few days for a fire that was within a mile of Flagstaff.
The fire was 61% contained as of 5 p.m. on Sunday. It was about 12% contained Thursday.
It has burned through 1,961 acres, no change in size from Sunday.
Crews will remain on alert with monsoon weather expected to bring thunderstorms to the area Monday evening and Tuesday, according to the release.
The fire started July 21, and its cause is still under investigation.
