2 men arrested in Tucson for conspiring to support ISIS

PHOENIX — The FBI on Friday arrested two men at the Tucson airport who were planning on traveling overseas to support ISIS, authorities said.
Ahmed Mahad Mohamed, 21, and Abdi Yemani Hussein, 20, told an undercover FBI employee they wanted to carry out an attack domestically or travel overseas to fight for ISIS, according to an affidavit.
Mohamed and Hussein ultimately had purchased tickets to travel to Cairo, Egypt, with the intention of traveling on to Sinai.
The affidavit details interactions in Tucson between the two men and the undercover employee since December 2018.

Mohamed told the undercover employee he wanted to leave the country and that “the best wake up call is Islamic State to get victory or another 9/11,” according to the affidavit.

Hussein in April 2018 told the undercover employee that he wanted to blow up the White House, according to the affidavit.
Both men are refugees from Somalia and Mohamed is a U.S. citizen, according to a press release.
They are being held on charges of conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign organization.
