Activity winds down on Cellar Fire south of Prescott

PHOENIX – Command of the Cellar Fire south of Prescott was returned to local authorities Thursday morning as activity winds down.
A Southwest Area Type 1 Incident Management Team had been leading the fight against the blaze since July 18.
With the 7,512-acre fire at 58% containment, Prescott National Forest assumed command at 6 a.m.
Firefighters will continue monitoring the conditions on the ground and use aerial resources as needed, according to a Prescott National Forest press release.

Thursday’s news was the final official update on the fire, barring significant changes, the release said.
The safety closure area related to the fire remains in effect, but it was reduced in size Wednesday.
Lightning sparked the Cellar Fire on July 14 in the Bradshaw Ranger District about 16 miles south of Prescott.
An evacuation order for residents in the nearby community of Pine Flat was in effect for two days last weekend.
