Central Fire burns 500 acres near New River, 20% contained
PHOENIX — A new human-caused brush fire that is being called the Central Fire ignited east of Interstate 17 between Anthem and New River on Saturday.
The blaze is not affecting any structures or I-17 at this time.
The Arizona State Forestry said the fire, which is north of the Valley, originated in Tonto Forest and has grown to 500 acres.
As of Saturday afternoon, it is approximately 20 percent contained.
An estimated 70 fire personnel, consisting of large air tankers and ground crews, are working to cease the blaze from progressing any further.
There have been no evacuations at this time.
