PHOENIX — The South Mountain Environmental Educational Center will be hosting a 3 1/2 hour event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
SMEEC, which is the sister facility of the Phoenix Zoo, will kick off the event starting at 6:00 p.m. with crafts and activities in addition to astronomy chats. The event continues with the keynote at 7:30 and another astronomy talk directly after.
The main attraction of the Apollo 11 commemoration is the telescope viewing and optical deep space imaging demonstrations, which run from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Despite the positioning of the mountain and ambient city lights, SMEEC is still a prime location to view the Milky Way, according to a press release.
The event is $5 per person and is open to all ages.
