Arizona ranked among top 10 states with least student debt

PHOENIX — Arizona was ranked among the top 10 states with the least amount of student debt.
WalletHub compared the states using 12 measures, including average student debt, unemployment rates and share of students with past-due loan balances.
Arizona was ranked the No. 10 state with the least amount of student debt, while California, Hawaii and Utah had the least debt.
South Dakota, Pennsylvania and West Virginia came in with the highest amount of student debt.

According to Forbes, as of February there were more than 44 million borrowers who owe a total of $1.5 trillion in student loan debt in the U.S.
Student loan debt is the second highest consumer debt category in the country, Forbes said. It’s behind mortgage debt but above both credit card debt and automobile loans.
