Body recovered from Grand Canyon believed to be missing California man
PHOENIX — Authorities believe a body found Wednesday in Grand Canyon National Park is that of a California man who has been missing for almost two weeks.
Park rangers found the body in the Colorado River below Lava Falls near river mile 181 after being notified earlier in the day, the National Park Service said in a press release Thursday.
Peter Francis Schwab, 66, of Healdsburg, California, was last seen during a river trip on June 28 near river mile 167, according to the release.
Schwab was reported missing after the group stopped at National Canyon.
The Coconino County medical examiner is still waiting to identify the body.
An investigation by the National Park Service into the incident is ongoing.
