Maybe you’re pressed for time all the time and yet your house could use a little TLC. So, we’ve put together a list of possible repairs around the house that could be done in 15 minutes — or maybe a few moments more than that.
Keep in mind that you need to have all the tools, parts and materials handy before starting those fixes. We’re not counting the time it takes to prepare for the 15 minutes of work.
Generally, these are just little things that you keep putting off and putting off when actually you can fix these situations in almost no time at all.
So here we go:
1. Fill the old nail holes in a wall where a picture used to hang. Fill the holes with spackling paste, caulk or even toothpaste for an especially tiny hole; let it dry and sand it down before repainting.
2. Replace the old, dirty cover plates on your light switches.
3. Do 15 minutes of miscellaneous paint retouches on tiny scrapes and marks on interior walls. The leftover paint is probably sitting on a shelf in your garage.
4. Remove the old aerator on a faucet that’s getting corroded and soak the aerator in vinegar before replacing it.
5. Clean the spilled food out of your microwave.
6. Empty the crusts and crumbs out of the bottom of your toaster and polish the toaster.
7. Change the water filter in your refrigerator.
8. Untangle and try to shorten up the cords for the computer, modem and other electronic equipment in your “office.”
9. Clean out a very small closet and put unworn or worn-out clothes in bags to take to a charity.
10. Dust the blades of your ceiling fans and the tops of sconces and lighting fixtures.
11. Change the air intake filters on your heating and air conditioning system.
12. Vacuum the dust and grime out of your bathroom exhaust fan.
13. Use an old toothbrush to scrub the grout between the tiles in the kitchen with soap and water. Do this just 15 minutes a day for several days and you’ll get be able to do the entire kitchen floor.
14. Polish all the fronts of the stainless-steel appliances in your kitchen.
15. Run a short hot-water cycle through your clothes washer with a cup full of vinegar in the water. It will prevent odor buildup.
