PHOENIX – An East Valley brewery claimed two medals at the prestigious 2019 U.S. Open Beer Championships.
O.H.S.O. Brewery in Gilbert won a silver medal in the “non whiskey barrel aged beer” category for its Knights of Windsor and a bronze medal in “barrel-aged strong stout/porter specialty” for its Te Quiero.
Those were the only medal-winning beers from Arizona at this year’s competition.
O.H.S.O., which has four Valley locations, opened its downtown Gilbert restaurant/brewery in April 2018.
The annual U.S. Open Beer Championships is the only major competition open to both professional breweries and award-winning home brewers.
This year’s event drew more than 7,000 submissions from around the world representing more than 130 styles.
Entries had to be submitted by June 1, and the winners as selected by judges from England, Canada and the U.S. were revealed Tuesday.
In 2018, two Arizona entrants won silver medals: Tempe-based Huss Brewing and Williams-based Grand Canyon Brewing.
