Arizona Humane Society takes in mom, pups left outside without water

PHOENIX – A Phoenix animal welfare organization said it was caring for a German shepherd mix and her three puppies after they were left out in the heat without water last week.
A fourth puppy died after being transported to the Arizona Humane Society’s trauma hospital with the other dogs Tuesday, when the high temperature in Phoenix was 108 degrees.
According to ABC15, the dogs were in the backyard of a house near 16th Street and Southern Avenue.
The station said the owner, 38-year-old Ruby Maude Marlow, was booked on five counts of animal cruelty. She reportedly told officials the dogs were known to knock over their water bowls.

The hospital is treating the 3-year-old mother and surviving puppies for giardia (a parasite) and ticks. The puppies are around 3 months old.
The dogs were seized by Phoenix police and are under protective custody hold until Thursday. If the shelter is awarded custody, the dogs will be put up for adoption when they get medical clearance.
There was no timetable for when they might become available.
The Arizona Humane Society said its field and rescue team rescued around 4,000 abused, injured and abandoned animals last year.
