PHOENIX — If you’re already praying for winter, just remember — the desert heat has actually been pretty mild this year.

Andrew Deemer with the National Weather Service in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday that the area saw its coolest June since 2011.

“I think most people kind of felt it. We only hit 110 a handful of times. In terms of temperature, June really wasn’t too bad,” he said.

The average temperature for the month was 91.1 degrees. Deemer said the highest temperature Phoenix has seen so far this year is 112 degrees, which hit the city June 12 and was 9 degrees above the average daily temperature.

“It seems like the past several years, we’ve been hitting 115, 118, 119 quite a few times, so not to be at those numbers through June is a pretty good thing,” Deemer said.

He said the Valley can expect a slight cooldown through the Fourth of July weekend with temperatures hovering around 105-108 degrees.

“It’s still going to be hot outside, but definitely a little bit cooler than what we’ve been seeing the past couple days,” he said.

On Monday, Phoenix recorded its fourth day in a row of temperatures at or above 110 degrees. Tuesday was expected to only reach 108 degrees.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Jim Cross contributed to this report.
