PHOENIX — Two Arizona cities made the top 20 of an insurance company’s list of the safest driving cities for 2019.

Scottsdale and Mesa ranked No. 15 and No. 16, respectively, according to Allstate.

Nine Arizona cities were included in the report, which analyzed claim and collision data for the nation’s 200 largest cities.

“If cities can keep their people aware of things that will prevent crashes such as keeping your eyes on the road, staying diligent and minimizing distractions, these are things that will help promote safe driving,” Terrie Greene, an Allstate agency owner, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday.

Scottsdale and Mesa beat the national average for years between claims, a key metric of the report.

Drivers from the cities each averaged 11.6 years between claims. The national average is 10.57 years, according to Allstate.

The two cities were Arizona’s safest for drivers last year, but flip-flopped their positions.

All nine involved Arizona cities finished in the top 100, including Chandler (No. 26), Phoenix (No. 84) and Glendale (No. 89).

Peoria (No. 35), Tucson (No. 40), Gilbert (No. 41) and Tempe (No. 64) were also a part of the report.

Brownsville, Texas, was the nation’s safest driving city.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Raegen Petzold contributed to this report.
