PHOENIX– The Glendale Police Department is the latest Phoenix-area agency to join the Neighbors app by Ring, according to a press release Monday.

“The more residents download and use the app, the more vital information will be made available to our department so that we can continue to enhance community safety,” Colby Brandt, Glendale Police administrative services commander, said in the release.

The app allows the department to communicate with residents by providing them with real-time local crime and safety information. Brandt also said its a great opportunity for the community to partner with police to keep neighborhoods safe.

Glendale residents can opt into the program by texting “glendaleaz” to 555888 to download the Neighbors app. From there, they’ll be able to join their neighborhood to share videos, photos and texts.

The app allows users to create a geographic area about where they’d like to receive notifications. They must verify their location and can only join their neighborhood.

“By bringing security to every neighbor with the free Neighbors app, the Glendale community can stay on top of crime and safety alerts as they happen,” Jamie Siminoff, chief inventor and founder of Ring, said in the release.

Residents do not need to have a Ring doorbell camera to participate in the program.

Since December 2018, the Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert and Surprise police departments have joined the Neighbors by Ring program as well.

We want to hear from you.
