PHOENIX – Motorists heading into the Phoenix area from the south this weekend won’t be able to take Interstate 10 because of a freeway closure.

Westbound I-10 will be shut down between State Route 347 (Queen Creek Road) and the Loop 202 Santan Freeway from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

In addition, the westbound on-ramps at Queen Creek Road and the westbound on- and off-ramps at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard will be closed.

Crews will work on overhead signage for the future South Mountain Freeway interchange during the closure. Two additional closures of the area will be scheduled later this summer to complete the work.

Valley-bound drivers on I-10 will have to exit at Queen Creek Road, go east to Price Road, north to the Loop 202 Santan Freeway and east back to the I-10 westbound.

There are multiple other freeway restrictions scheduled across metro Phoenix this weekend.

The eastbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday as part of a widening project.

Southbound I-17 will be closed for bridge girder installation at Pinnacle Peak Road from 10 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday. Then from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday, northbound I-17 will be closed at Pinnacle Peak for bridge girder work.

I-17 traffic will be detoured along the ramps during those closures, and Pinnacle Peak will be shut down in both directions while the I-17 closures are in effect.

The I-10 on- and off-ramps at 83rd Avenue will be closed for traffic-signal work and 83rd Avenue will be closed in both directions at I-10 from 9 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday.

Just east of there, eastbound I-10 will be restricted to two lanes between 63rd and 59th avenues and the eastbound I-10 on-ramp at 75th Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday for South Mountain Freeway interchange construction.

There will be lane restrictions on westbound I-10 near the U.S. 60 from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday, as well as on the southbound Loop 101 Price Freeway between Warner Road and Chandler Boulevard from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.

Additionally, the Loop 101 southbound on-ramp at Warner and off-ramp at Ray Road will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday. The 101 southbound on-ramp at Ray and off-ramp at Chandler will be closed from 8 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday.
