PHOENIX — The mother of a 5-month-old baby was arrested Sunday after allegedly leaving the child in a car at a Target shopping center, Goodyear police said.
The baby, who was transported to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, is in stable condition, authorities said.
Police said Stacey Holly, 37, told them she was distracted and forgot the infant in the car.
She was charged with one count each of endangerment and reckless child abuse.
The child was found at the Target near Yuma Road and Cotton Lane.
The high temperature in Goodyear on Sunday reached 104 degrees.
Authorities said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Police said parents should always check the backseat before leaving and locking a car, place personal belongings in the backseat while driving and place a toy in the passenger seat as a reminder of the child in the back.
