Globe police officer on leave following bar brawl Saturday


GLOBE, Ariz. — Police in the mining town of Globe say one of their officers is on leave after being involved in a bar brawl.

Globe police said in a news release that they were called to a fight at the Drift Inn bar shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday. The two people who had been fighting had been separated and one of them turned out to be an off-duty Globe police officer.

The local police called the Gila County Sheriff’s Office to take over the criminal investigation into the fight.

The news release did not say if any arrests had been made.

Police in the small mountain town about 90 miles (145 kilometers) east of downtown Phoenix are conducting an internal investigation into the officer’s actions.

The officer’s identity wasn’t released.
