PHOENIX – Environmental regulators have issued a high pollution advisory for Tuesday in metro Phoenix, citing wildfire smoke and ozone concerns.
The advisory was set to be active through Wednesday, Arizona Department of Environmental Quality officials said.
The Valley exceeded federal standards for ozone last weekend, the agency said.
The highest levels of ozone, a colorless, unstable toxic gas, usually arise in the afternoon.
Anyone with respiratory problems — asthma, bronchitis – and especially children, should limit outdoor activity while the advisory is in effect.

Exposure can increase the number and severity of asthma attacks, cause or aggravate bronchitis or other lung disease and reduce the body’s ability to fight infection.
Symptoms include itchy eyes, nose, and throat, wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath and chest pain.
Wildfires burning in the Superstition Mountains east of the Valley and near Cave Creek have clouded the skies.
