PHOENIX — Celebrate Frank Lloyd Wright’s 152nd birthday in the home and school of the country’s most influential architect.
On Saturday, guests can visit Taliesin West in Scottsdale for live entertainment, pop-up shops and hands-on lessons from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
During the event, which is being called the first Discovery Day, features interactive activities centered around learning basics of Wright’s craft.
Lessons include how technology is used to analyze material, a bridge-building lab, a cyanotype photographic printing workshop. There will also be a demonstration of the print-on-demand program that allows users to print Wright-inspired designs.
Additionally, there will be a screening of “The Wizard of Oz,” as it was once shown at the Taliesin West during Wright’s life.
The architect, born in 1867 in Wisconsin, died in 1959 in Phoenix. He designed 1,114 works of architecture, 532 of which were completed, according to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation website.
Admission is free for Discovery Day, but potential participants are encouraged to advance reservation to guarantee entry.
