PHOENIX – A Valley man arrested earlier this year for allegedly having sex with a cat is in trouble again.
This time he’s being accused of trying to have sexual contact with an underage girl.
However, the 14-year-old girl Michael C. Navage attempted to meet up with last week turned out to be an undercover Mesa police detective.
Navage, 40, was charged with luring a minor for sexual exploitation, attempted sexual conduct with a minor and two drug offenses, according to court documents.
According to the probable cause statement, a detective created a profile on a social media website on which adults were known to seek casual encounters.
Navage allegedly contacted the profile. After asking for an age and being told 14, he proceeded to send messages of a sexual nature and make plans for a meeting.
He was taken into custody when he showed up and booked into Mesa City Jail.
Officers found a glass pipe with residue and a crystal substance that a field drug test indicated contained methamphetamine.
Navage — who had been on pre-trial release after being charged with bestiality, animal cruelty and drug offenses in March – is being held without bail.
The previous arrest came after police responded to a call at an apartment near University and Val Vista drives.
According to court documents, the caller said Navage had taken the cat into the bathroom and the cat was screaming and sounded hurt.
The responding officer located Navage in the bathroom nude, with the cat partially wrapped in a towel.
Navage denied having sex with the cat and said he’d only been drying it off. However, the officer found probable cause for arrest based on witness statements and a veterinarian’s examination of the animal.
He also said he was homeless and traded the drugs for permission to stay at the apartment and use the shower.
