PHOENIX – Plenty of mud will fly in Scottsdale this weekend, but there won’t be any politicians behind the mess.

Family-fun event Mighty Mud Mania returns to the Old Town area on Saturday at Chaparral Park near Hayden and Jackrabbit roads.

The 44th obstacle-course mudfest will run from 7 a.m. to noon. Participants will work their ways through and across mud pits up to 5 feet deep, slides, rope swings and a tube dive, among the set-ups.

The original mud obstacle course for 7-to-12-year-olds includes a footrace.

Children 13 and older (and grown-ups, too) who want more of challenge can sign up for the extreme course, which has seven obstacles. Participants 18 and older will have to pay $10. Day-of registration will be open from 7 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Organizers will waive the admission fee if you bring a nonperishable food item for the Vista del Camino Food Bank.

A mini course will be ready for ages 4 to 6, along with Mudville and Muddy Tot for ages 1 to 3.

Parents can preregister their children online. Wristbands can be picked up, with proof of purchase, ahead of time at three parks: McDowell Mountain Ranch, Eldorado and Chaparral.

Perhaps best of all to parents, everybody can clean up at on-site wash stations.

The weather will be plenty hot, too:

We want to hear from you.
