Expect to see emergency vehicles in downtown Phoenix on Sunday

PHOENIX – If you see emergency vehicles swarming near the Phoenix Convention Center early Sunday morning, don’t panic.

It’s only practice.

The Phoenix police and fire departments, along with other Maricopa County public safety agencies, have planned downtown training exercises during June, the city said Friday in press release.

As a result, people can expect to see an increase in emergency vehicles and equipment in the downtown area as the city prepares to host the 2019 National Homeland Security Conference on June 17-20.

“These are well-planned coordinated exercises with safety in mind,” the city said in a tweet.

The conference is an annual meeting of homeland security and emergency management specialists from across the U.S.

Sunday’s exercise – the exact time hasn’t been made public – is a walk-through or for a full-scale exercise later in June.

The city will provide more information about the larger exercise before it takes place.
