PHOENIX — The beginning stages of construction on a major freeway is scheduled to begin this weekend in the East Valley.
Southbound Loop 101 from the U.S. 60 to Warner Road will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday as crews begin setting up a work zone to begin adding an extra lane, said Arizona Department of Transportation spokesperson Carolina Carpenter.
“The 101 is going to be widened and adding an extra lane in each direction between the Loop 202 San Tan Freeway and Baseline,” Carpenter said.
This is part of what is expected to be a $76 million project along a six-mile stretch on the Loop 101 in the Tempe, Mesa and Chandler areas.
The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2020.
Price Road will be open this weekend but with heavy delays, Carpenter said. In a press release, ADOT recommended using McClintock Drive or Dobson Road as detours.
That’s not the only road restriction scheduled in the Valley this weekend.
In north Phoenix, Seventh Street will be closed in both directions at the Loop 101 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Our list of weekend freeway closures and restrictions is now out. We have a closures on the L-101 Price, restriction on US 60/Grand Avenue as well as overnight restrictions on I-10 and Seventh Street at L-101. Read the full rundown here: https://t.co/2wH5vr9k1y pic.twitter.com/c379oVsSw9

Eastbound Interstate 10 is going to be narrowed to one lane at 59th Avenue in Phoenix at night for construction on the South Mountain Freeway interchange bridge.
This will take place from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday and then 8 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday.
Grand Avenue will be restricted at Meeker Boulevard/Reems Road in Surprise from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday.
No left turns will be allowed at the intersection, ADOT said. Drivers on Grand Avenue heading eastbound trying to turn left can use R.H. Johnson Boulevard and westbound drivers can use Parkview Place as a detour.
