PHOENIX — Peoria firefighters responded to an unusual call on Memorial Day when they rescued an injured pet dog from the top of a mountain.

The dog named Toby had gone missing from his family’s home five days before, the Peoria Fire-Medical Department said in a Wednesday Facebook post.

Hikers found the dog, who had bite marks and was dehydrated, on the mountain. The owners and their neighbor were unable to carry Toby down because of his size and the rough terrain.

A fire crew jumped in to help and successfully carried Toby down the mountain on a stretcher.

The rescued canine is now recovering with his family, who is happy to have him home.

We want to hear from you.
