Dressbarn to close all US stores, including 9 in Arizona

PHOENIX — Women’s fashion retailer Dressbarn on Monday announced plans to close all of its 650 stores in the U.S., including nine in Arizona.
“For more than 50 years, Dressbarn has served women’s fashion needs, and we thank all of our dedicated associates for their commitment to Dressbarn and our valued customers,” Steven Taylor, chief financial officer, said in a press release.
“This decision was difficult, but necessary, as the Dressbarn chain has not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability in today’s retail environment.”
The New Jersey-based store, which employs about 6,800 people, will release more details about the closures as it begins to wind down operations, according to the release.

For the time being, the website and all of the stores are conducting business as usual.
Seven of Dressbarn’s Arizona locations are in the Valley, and two are in Tucson.
The retailer is part of Ascena Retail Group, which also owns women and girl’s clothing companies Ann Taylor, LOFT, Lane Bryant, Lou & Grey, Catherines, Cacique and Justice.
