PHOENIX – Airports in smaller Arizona cities have received about $14 million to fund infrastructure-related projects, the Federal Aviation Administration announced this week.
Coolidge and Holbrook municipal airports were among 127 airports in the United States and Puerto Rico that were awarded the grants Tuesday.
Coolidge, in Pinal County, will get $9.5 million, while Holbrook, in Navajo County, will get $4.7 million, to improve their runways.
The facilities serve small private aircraft, for the most part. Coolidge will replace pavement on two runways, while Holbrook will focus on repairs to its main landing strip.
“This supplemental funding allows us to invest in important infrastructure needs at the nation’s airports, especially those serving smaller and rural communities,” Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao said in a prepared statement.
In all, $779 million in supplemental funding was divided up around the country for construction or equipment at airports in this round of grants.
