PHOENIX — Police on Monday said a woman told them she suffocated her elderly mother in Scottsdale.
Sgt. Ben Hoster said dispatchers received a report around 2 p.m. from someone at an apartment complex near 64th Street and Osborn Road saying their neighbor asked them to call 911.
When the dispatcher began asking questions, the caller gave the phone to 46-year-old Holly Brennan, who then admitted to killing her mother, Hoster said.
He said when officers arrived, they contacted Brennan in front of the apartment, where she told police she smothered 79-year-old Sharon Simmons with a pillow.
Officers found Simmons dead in her bed when they entered.
Hoster said the pair lived together for several years, and Brennan has a history of abusing Simmons.
Police said Brennan is in custody. She will face charges of second-degree murder.
