Substitute teacher allegedly assaulted student in Sierra Vista school

PHOENIX — A substitute teacher on Friday was arrested for allegedly assaulting a student in a classroom, according to Cochise County Sheriff’s Office officials.

The teacher has been identified as 50-year-old Walter Benny.

Deputies were called to Coronado School in Sierra Vista around 1 p.m. Friday after receiving a call that Benny had assaulted a 14-year-old boy in a classroom.

Shortly after the arrival of the deputies, Benny began having medical issues.

Benny was taken to a hospital for evaluation and then booked into the county jail following his release from the hospital.

The 14-year-old student has not been identified.
