PHOENIX — A 16-year-old girl died in a rollover accident that shut down a major Phoenix highway on Thursday morning.
Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Raul Garcia said the girl wasn’t wearing a seatbelt when her pickup truck rolled while driving on Interstate 10 westbound near Roosevelt Street.
Garcia said the girl was driving at a high speed when she lost control of the vehicle. The truck struck the cable barrier in the median, which caused it to roll over.
She was pronounced dead on scene. No one else was injured in the crash.
The freeway was closed at the State Route 51 Mini-Stack interchange around 9 a.m., but partially reopened before 10 a.m.
No other details were immediately given.
