PHOENIX — A 44-year-old man turned himself in in connection to a hit-and-run accident in metro Phoenix earlier this week that left a 12-year-old boy in serious condition.
Jesse Mendoza from Phoenix turned himself in to police Wednesday night after photos of the box truck that he was driving at the time of the alleged crash surfaced.
The 12-year-old was riding his skateboard near 63rd Avenue and Camelback Road in Glendale just before 9 p.m. Monday when the truck driving southbound hit him in the roadway.
The driver of the vehicle left the area without stopping to help. The child was transported to medical care with life-threatening injuries.
Police said photos showed the truck with a white cargo door and a logo leave the scene of the crash. Detectives were led to the work truck in Phoenix.
Mendoza admitted his involvement in the incident, police said.
He was booked on charges including failing to stop for an accident involving a serious injury, failing to help an injured pedestrian and driving on a suspended or revoked license.
