PHOENIX — Residents in metro Phoenix woke up to a rarely seen sight on Tuesday: Rain. In the Valley. In May.
Even though it wasn’t a torrential downpour — and the rain that did fall wasn’t expected to stick around long — it was enough to dampen many drivers’ morning commutes.
The National Weather Service said 0.01 inches, one-hundredth of an inch, fell at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport by 7 a.m.
Good morning #Phoenix! We have already received a hundredth of an inch of rain at #SkyHarbor today, surpassing our rainfall total from last May! Our low this morning has been 63° which is 4° below normal. We only are expecting highs in the lower 80s, about 10° below normal! #azwx pic.twitter.com/zGIziWRmOS

Shower activity is continuing to move through the #Phoenix metro, with the heaviest showers over the north & NW Valley. Rainfall amounts of around a tenth of an inch expected for the north Valley, with isolated to scattered amounts of a few hundredths of an inch elsewhere. #azwx pic.twitter.com/3fWmQcy3xy

The rain was expected to clear up by the afternoon.
Radar update: 6:45 a.m.: A few showers moving across the Valley this morning. It's not widespread rain, but you may get caught under a passing shower on your drive into work. The afternoon looks drier with clearing skies and highs in the low 80s #abc15wx #azwx @KTAR923 @abc15 pic.twitter.com/JbBNxXyOt8

But the Valley also experienced colder than normal temperatures on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service said the day’s high was expected to be in the lower 80s, about 10 degrees below normal. The morning’s low was 63 degrees, four degrees lower than normal.
Phoenix was expected to see cooler than normal temperatures, with small chances of rain throughout the rest of the week.

Temperatures will remain below normal through the remainder of the week as highs will struggle to make it out of the 80s. Thursday will be the warmest day of the week before temperatures cool back down into the weekend. #azwx pic.twitter.com/1RkTM4pWmB
