Crews begin construction on another building in Tempe development

PHOENIX — Crews have broke ground on a six-story office building that will be located in a mixed-use development in Tempe, which will also be home to an eight-story hotel.

The 777 Tower will be a 160,000-square-foot office building within the Novus Innovation Corridor at Rural Road and Sixth Street, near Arizona State University’s main campus.

The Thursday groundbreaking ceremony kicked off a construction project that is expected to take about a year.

The L-shaped office building is expected to feature an open floor plan with penthouse office space and about 8,000 square feet of retail space on the first floor.

A press release said there are also plans to create an area for events.

Developers recently broke ground on a 259-room hotel that will have the Hyatt name, which will also be part of the Novus Innovation Corridor.

Hyatt Place/Hyatt House will be located near Veterans Way and Sixth Street, right by Wells Fargo Arena. It is also expected to be complete by summer 2020.

Arizona State University’s Karsten Golf Course also closed Sunday to pave the way for the corridor.

Legislation securing the 330-acre Novus Innovation Corridor was signed into law in 2010.

The bill allows Maricopa County supervisors to work with the university to build a development that the proceeds will be used to construct and improve ASU’s athletic facilities.
