PHOENIX – A little more than a year after opening, Tempe Public Market Café will be closing next week to expand seating and service options.

The locally owned restaurant at Rural and Warner roads announced last week it will shut down from May 6 until early June to make interior and exterior changes and allow for full-service dining options.

“The work we are doing at the restaurant is all with the community in mind,” Dave Chamberlin, president of Tempe Public Market Café, said in a press release.

The 3,400-square-foot eatery, which opened in January 2018, will add café tables on the west side of the building and high-top tables to the outside patio.

In addition, a projector will be installed on the patio to show movies at night.

The main dining area inside will get a new lounge section, and long tables to create a community-style seating will replace several booths.

The menu will also see changes, including the addition of full-service brunch on weekends and full-service dinner at night.

The new-look restaurant will feature murals by Phoenix artist Gennaro Garcia inside and outside.

Other changes will include an expanded retail merchandise section, new menu boards and a new pastry case.

“We are committed to keeping in line with the look and feel of this close-knit area,” Chamberlin said.
